Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy – Costa Rica

Location: Costa Rica

Client: Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy

Close up of a solar powered tower light high above the groundOverview: As Central America’s leading wind energy company, Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy (GME) develops, constructs, and operates wind energy projects across Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Since 2004, the company has closed on financing for five wind generation projects that provide 220 megawatts of electricity, with several hundred more megawatts at various project stages. They sought lighting for five meteorological masts, installed in May 2016 in Costa Rica.

Our Solution: Carmanah OL800 solar obstruction light and OL4 solar warning light

Choosing Carmanah: For project engineer Sebastián Zeledón Castro, choosing Carmanah’s solar lights was an easy decision. Before working for GME, he had worked for a company that installed and maintained meteorological masts for wind resource assessment purposes; since this company was also a regional dealer of Carmanah products, he became familiar with Carmanah’s obstruction lights. “Certainly, I had to work with obstruction lights from other manufacturers,” he said. “This situation allowed me to verify the superior quality of Carmanah equipment.”

Outcome: Since GME required meteorological masts that are compliant with national civil aviation regulations, Carmanah’s OL800 and OL4 were an obvious fit. Both lights were installed on permanent meteorological masts at each of GME’s newest wind farms in Costa Rica.

“Carmanah products have proven to be the optimal obstruction light device throughout almost six years now that I’ve been using them. The self-contained feature and easy setup are, in my opinion, two of the most important characteristics of this equipment.”

– Sebastián Zeledón Castro, Globeleq project engineer

Carmanah Safety Marking Lights illuminate Cell Towers in South America

Monday, June 23, 2008

A cellular telecommunications provider in South America is equipping cell towers with Carmanah solar safety marking lights. With up to four miles of visibility, the Carmanah A704-5 obstruction lights will significantly improve the visibility of each tower within this remote location.

As a stand-alone solar-powered light source, the A704-5 marking light provides the ideal solution for locations with limited access to power. Integrated within a compact, durable casing, each solar-powered LED light installs easily with a simple but secure bolt-mounting system. With a five-year maintenance cycle, Carmanah solar marking lights can also reduce the time and costs involved in regular maintenance procedures.

Freedom from the electrical grid also means that Carmanah’s solar lights are immune to electrical grid outages and power surges, providing a safer and more reliable solution that hardwired alternatives cannot equal.

Carmanah Solar Obstruction Marking Lights in Sri Lanka

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Working closely with a local distributor, Carmanah has supplied an additional order of obstruction marking lights to two large Sri Lankan telecommunication companies. These lights will be used on cellular telecommunication towers throughout the country to increase the safety and visibility of the towers.

As cellular telephone services improve, Sri Lanka’s cellular communications system continues to grow. Currently, approximately one-quarter of the Sri Lankan population owns or has access to a mobile phone. As this number continues to rise, so too does the need for additional cellular towers to be constructed throughout the country, equipped with the latest technologies, including Carmanah’s solar-powered obstruction marking lights.

Featuring two miles of visibility, Carmanah’s self-contained A601 obstruction marking light is easy and cost-effective to install. The lights operate immediately upon installation, switching on at dusk and off at dawn and require no scheduled maintenance for up to 5 years. They are also field-proven to be some of the most durable and reliable self-contained solar lights in the world.
